Thye Wen Yi
Growing up in a challenging environment inspired me to become a person to help those who are in need.
When I was an undergrad, I was already active as the sub-committee in the student council and helped out with welfare departments. I also did my very first suicide prevention campaign, which also paved my way to continue on in the field of clinical psychology.
As I started doing my Masters of Clinical Psychology, I grabbed every opportunity and approached different NGOs to volunteer or work with to maximize my exposure to different settings. I was blessed with the opportunity to volunteer with a hospice, CREST Malaysia, MERCY Malaysia and the D11 Section of the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters to provide psychological first aid and psychotherapy to those who need the support.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, I also had the opportunity to volunteer with SafeSpace to provide mental support to COVID-19 patients, both online and also in quarantine centers. My experience working with refugees also inspired me to further provide support and empower this marginalized community in Malaysia.
My therapy approaches are often flexible according to your needs. Mental health is health, and I believe that reaching out for help is definitely a courageous move!
