Aileen Kim

Trainee Counsellor

I first studied for a Law degree and then worked in the banking industry for more than 10 years. After determining that my future did not lie in banking, I stepped forward into a career change I felt was more suitable for me. A long-standing interest in the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of people’s behaviour led to a career switch to counselling which I do no regret.

The ability to be of help to people, to listen, empathise, and walk with them on their journey gives me a sense of joy which I was searching for in my career. My experiences provide me the benefit of being more practiced in empathizing but, maintaining objectivity as I face a client. It makes me a more receptive listener, allowing me an in-depth view of how to address my client’ issues.

I believe we all have a reason for what we do and how we feel, be it negative or positive. Most of us want to be better, to improve from where we find ourselves in life and sometimes all it takes is to know someone is there to listen and walk beside us.
